Gilbarco Veeder-Root – Hose Retract Cabinet Design

The Gilbarco Veeder-Root fuel hose retract cabinet is a forecourt pump which allows the user to extend the hose from the cabinet and access either side of their car when refuelling.

The design brief asked for a solution which allowed the hose to extend from the cabinet, was robust and economic to produce.

We engineered a design solution which provided good user ergonomics, ensuring that the hose was easy to pull out with a smooth retract. It also met both the costing requirements and regulatory approvals.

We worked in partnership with a specialist sheet metal fabricator to manufacture and assemble the working prototypes, which were used to test the hose retract system.

The design files were then transferred to Gilbarco to integrate into their PDM system for production.

The dispenser is in use on many forecourts around the UK.

Metasphere Point – Remote Telemetry Unit

Metasphere provides products and services to allow companies to remotely manage their network assets spread over a wide area using telemetry.

The Metasphere Point RTU is an IP68 (dust and water tight) rated enclosure which houses electronics to allow remote monitoring of up to 5 sensors, for example a water level in an inspection chamber.

The Metasphere design brief asked for a distinctive industrial design to enable their product to stand out in the marketplace. The design solution provides a compact, robust, user friendly, IP68 rated unit with a distinctive product identity.

We provided Metasphere with a turn-key product development service from industrial design concepts through development, prototyping and detailed engineering to injection moulded components.

The enclosure design was driven by the need to differentiate the product aesthetically, along with installation, electronics packaging and manufacturing needs as defined in the design brief.

The product has an integrated mounting feature to allow installation on walls and pipes, typical sites would include sewers and plant rooms.

The industrial design was initially evaluated using 3D prints followed by creation of vacuum cast prototype enclosures which allowed testing and validation of the IP68 rated seal.

Following on from testing the detail engineering design was completed in 3D/2D CAD using PTC Creo from which injection mould tooling for production was produced.

The product is now installed in many sites worldwide.
